Enhanced Enterprise Zone (EEZ):  The Enhanced Enterprise Zone (EEZ) plays a very important role in St. Clair County Missouri. It works towards creating and retaining jobs in the county. The EEZ Board works closely with the county commissioners, the county economic developer and the various cities throughout St. Clair County. The purpose of the EEZ allows for tax abatement and can provide state tax credits. The St. Clair County EEZ encompasses available and commercial industrial property, some with a full range of public services including highways, air transportation and tele-communications. Authority for the Enhanced Enterprise Zone is contained in Chapter 135 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri. The Act authorizes state tax credits and local property tax abatements. To qualify, a sole proprietorship, partnership or corporation must meet all the requirements of the Enhanced Enterprise Zone.

Brownfields Assessment Program: The Brownfields Assessment Program is all about redevelopment and reuse of commercial properties. Through a process involving two phases, an environmental assessment will be conducted. Phase I being visual, Phase II involving sampling. This program is completely voluntary and does not cost the property owner anything, while the grant is open. The funding is set to expire September 2015, so if there is a commercial site you would like to have assessed please contact your economic developer at
